Peace Arch – Land Port of Entry
Through a qualifications interview process Blythe was selected to install the HVAC, plumbing, and DDC controls systems for the Peace Arch Border Station. The facility offers exercise and shower rooms, laboratory space, conference room, office and training space, criminal detention cells, a vehicle inspection bay, and 12 inspection booths with independent heating and cooling systems. Mechanical work included plumbing systems, ventilation and exhaust systems using hydronic heating and cooling, fuel oil systems, and other specialty mechanical systems. Throughout the construction process a collaborative effort was made by Blythe and the other team members to maintain schedule, and to identify value engineering options to the design. Several design revisions were instituted during construction with Blythe as a key participant in ensuring that implementation was successful. Weekly coordination meetings helped to identify potential impacts and develop solutions early. The project was complicated by a phased construction schedule, including project shut down times for the 2010 Winter Olympics. To complete all scopes of work Blythe successfully communicated and coordinated with multiple government agencies having jurisdiction.
This project was completed on time and within budget, with zero reportable injuries over a three year construction period. The Peace Arch Land Point of Entry project achieved a LEED Gold certification, and Blythe was named a Best in Class Contractor by GSA Region 10 for outstanding performance on the project.
